Ottawa Valley High School

Powerlifting Championships

Dear Principal or Physical Education Teacher,

We are pleased to invite your school to enter a team in the 2010 Ottawa Valley High School Powerlifting Competition. The competition is for public and Catholic high schools in the Ottawa Valley and surrounding areas and is conducted by Iron Works Powerlifting club, a not-for-profit organisation.

The competition will be held after school on Friday March 12 and all day Saturday March 13.

The competition is categorized by weight class and male and female divisions:

                   Male: 52, 56, 60, 67.5, 75, 82.5, 90, 100, 110, 125, 125+

                   Female: 44, 48, 52, 56, 60, 67.5, 75, 82.5, 90, 90 +

A team is not limited on the number of lifters who may compete in different weight classes. However, lifters must be students at the school they represent.

Participating schools are required to nominate a coordinator (usually a teacher or member of ancillary staff, but may be a parent), and for the competition a supervising adult must be present throughout the competition. Iron Works Powerlifting Club will provide the organization, administration and running of the competition.

The entry fee is $45 per athlete (including GST). Trophies and Medals are awarded to successful team and lifters. Detailed information will be sent out in time for the weigh in and final location. Entries close on Monday March 1st. An entry form accompanies this letter.

Winners of the competition will qualify to compete at the Provincial Championships.  Last year's Provincial High school competition attracted over 76 athletes from 10 schools Province wide.

Powerlifting has become increasingly popular in recent years.  With the 2011 Sub Junior and Junior Powerlifting Worlds being hosted in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan, the Ontario Powerlifting Association would like to promote our sport to new lifters and expose them to the competition and fun. Our school competition in particular has grown enormously and many of these athletes have now entered into the National Powerlifting Ranks. We hope you will be able to encourage your student athletes to continue developing their functional strength, power and technical skills by participating in our High School Competition or take advantage of our outreach powerlifting training seminars.

If you would like further information, please phone the undersigned (day or evening) or visit our website (www.canadapowerlifting.com).

Yours sincerely,
